Where was McCain when Obama attacked the free press?
Senator John McCain poured it on for the press at a Munich defense conference Saturday, warning in a veiled attack on President Trump that attacks on the press are a leading danger for democracy. “That’s how dictators are made!” he shrieked. It was rich stuff, given that most of his European listeners do not have the same wide press freedoms found in the states. But more to the point, it was McCain up to his old tricks: Ingratiating himself to the anti-Trump press by playing its champion, in a bid to be the media’s darling.
What stands out here is the hypocrisy of his claims. He’s suddenly concerned about press freedoms and dictators?
Where was McCain when President Obama was systematically violating press freedoms every which way to Tuesday?
Seven examples of Obama’s attacks on a free press spring to mind and not one of them drew any significant criticism from McCain.
Where was McCain when Fox News correspondent James Rosen was illegally followed around by Obama’s Department of Justice in 2013 over a story he published on North Korean activities? It was a clear-cut example of reporters just doing their jobs, even as someone in government was leaking the story, but Team Obama went after Rosen with the Espionage Act.
Where was McCain when CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson’s computer was being taken over and hacked in late 2012 by what were almost certainly Obama agents over her Benghazi scandal reporting? She described the still-unresolved incident in her book Stonewalled (which ought to give another clue about the Obama record on press freedoms) but her story about the computer hacking, which included planting classified documents and keystroke changings, certainly was disturbing. We didn’t hear much from McCain.
Where was McCain when New York Times reporter James Risen was threatened with prosecution if he did not reveal his sources? Risen certainly thought Obama was acting like a dictator in a recent interview. McCain, not so much.
Where was McCain when Obama illegally wiretapped the communications systems of the Associated Press in 2013 bid to find out its sources? Nowhere to be found.
Where was McCain when radio show host Rush Limbaugh was attacked by Obama – in 2009 and 2012 for unfavorable commentary?
Where was McCain when Fox News was singled out for criticism by President Obama? This event was not only a blast at the outfit but highly inappropriate collaboration with Media Matters, which made Fox News its bugbear.
And where was McCain when Obama’s spokesman John Kirby attacked a RT News correspondent at a 2016 White House press conference who asked an uncomfortable question on Syria, questioning its legitimacy as a press outfit? If the Russian state-funded press agency was that illegitimate, explain to us why it had a press pass issued by the White House at all? We heard nothing about it from McCain.
The Obama list is quite long, and that is not surprising. Obama was a socialist and socialists of all stripes have a long record of suppressing freedom of the press, subordinating its expression to the interests of an all-powerful state and its dictator. McCain found nothing wrong with that when Obama was playing that game and undercutting the press in what seemed to be pretty oppressive and downright illegal behavior. Breitbart News has another list of problems here. But when Trump, three or four weeks into his presidency, calls out some fake news on Twitter, suddenly we have a dictator descending.
Why should Muslims Feel Entitled to Move to America?
Why should Americans feel obligated to open our borders for Muslims to move here en masse? Foreign nationals in foreign countries do not have U.S. Constitutional rights. As the Supreme Court has held, an unadmitted and nonresident alien “had no constitutional right of entry to this country as a nonimmigrant or otherwise.” (Mandel, 408 U.S. at 762; see Plasencia, 459 U.S. at 32.) Beyond this fact, the president has plenary power over foreign affairs and this includes, under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, the power to suspend or impose restrictions on the entry of foreign nationals if he determinestheir entry “would be detrimental to the interest of the United States.” The president as commander-in-chief is given this power, not New York Times columnists, not wailing Democrats, not the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the many activists groups calling for massive increases in Muslim immigration.
Remarkably many supporters of enhanced vetting to protect Americans have gone into a protective crouch and have not articulated reasons why we should be very careful about admitting more and more Muslims into America.
But we should be concerned.
There are claims that not one Muslim from the seven nations named in Trump’s executive order has been implicated in terrorism. The New York Times in a lead editorial stated that not one person from those nations has engaged in terrorism, despite a Somalian refugee going on a rampage at Ohio State University last year. Seattle-based District Court Judge James Robart asked a federal prosecutor how many citizens of those seven countries were arrested for terrorism since September 11. “Let me tell you, the answer to that is none, as best as I can tell.”
Then he issued an injunction freezing Trump’s executive order. More significantly, even the San Francisco appeals court that upheld that injunction turned a blind eye (justice is supposed to be blind but not this type of blind) to the fact that 72 persons from the seven mostly Muslim nations covered by Trump’s extreme vetting order have been convicted of terrorism — not arrested, not indicted but convicted. Deroy Murdock of National Review provides a few thumbnail sketches of some of those immigrants who have terrorized or planned to terrorize Americans and is correct to conclude that Trump’s executive order is meant to protect us from real-life mayhem
Scott Johnson, one of the founders of Powerline, has one superb work in uncovering the terrorism epicenter that the Somalian community of his hometown of Minneapolis has become over the years. Many Syrian refugees (and many other refugees from other Muslim majority nations) support ISIS, according to a poll by the Arab Center for Policy and Research Studies; they harbor anti-Semitic and anti-Western ideologies and are primed to turn those views into action,
What has also been pronounced is the media blackout and amnesia over the litany of Muslim terror attacks over the years in America. Here is a sampling: the first World Trade Center bombing, 9/11, Boston Marathon massacre, San Bernardino, the Orlando nightclub massacre, Fort Hood, Chattanooga, the aforementioned Ohio State attack, and on and on and more to come (for a much longer list see, “A Complete List of Radical Islamic Terror Attacks on U.S. Soil Under Obama”). There have also been planned attacks that were not successfully completed, among them the Underwear Bomber and the plot to blow up Times Square.
Apologists are wont to say some of these attacks were done by U.S. citizens. That is true, but they are often the sons of Muslim immigrants, and members of the second generation of Muslim immigrants too often become alienated from America and radicalized by mosques in America or by online campaigns to stoke terrorism against America. The conclusion can be made that but for their parents moving to America there would be fewer murdered Americans.
Terror groups have openly boasted of their efforts to slip terrorists into the stream of immigrants coming into America from Muslim nations. James Comey, head of the FBI, and James Clapper, Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, warned that vetting procedures were inadequate to protect us from the threats of terrorists coming to America .
Sometimes the future is visible in the present, and this is one of those times, since we can see how the European experiment with open borders and welcoming of Muslim refugees has turned out for them: mass terror attacks that have become so routine that even James Taylor has given up trying to bring solace to thebeleaguered and endangered Europeans. Crime waves have followed refugee waves. Too many Europeans have paid a price for the generosity they have shown to Muslims, who have reciprocated by upping their demands, truck attacks, nightclub attacks, stadium attacks, Louvre attacks, attacks on women, beheading of priests, desecration of churches, torture of Jews, London subway and bus bombings, and beheading a British soldier. Are there any safe zones for Europeans?
Is it any wonder most Europeans are opposed to further migration (a bar on further Muslim migration has wide majority support in Europe? A leakedGerman Intelligence report stated:
“We are importing Islamic extremism, Arab anti-Semitism, national and ethnic conflicts of other peoples, as well as a different understanding of society and law. German security agencies are unable to deal with these imported security problems, and the resulting reactions from the German population.”
According to the Federal Labor Office, the educational level of newly arrived migrants in Germany is far lower than expected: only a quarter have a high school diploma, while three quarters have no vocational training at all. Only 4% of new arrivals to Germany are highly qualified.
For now, the vast majority of migrants who entered Germany in 2015 and 2016 are wards of the German state. German taxpayers payed around €21.7 billion ($23.4 billion) on aid for refugees and asylum seekers in 2016, and will pay a similar amount in 2017.
A Finance Ministry document revealed that the migrant crisis could end up costing German taxpayers €93.6 billion ($101 billion) between now and 2020. About €25.7 billion would be for social spending, such as unemployment benefits and housing support. About €5.7 billion would be destined for language courses and €4.6 billion for integrating refugees into the workforce.
Mass migration has also increased the demand for housing and has pushed up rental costs for ordinary Germans. Some 350,000 new apartments are required each year to meet demand, but only 245,000 apartments were built in 2014, and another 248,000 in 2015, according to the Rheinische Post.
Meanwhile, migrants committed 208,344 crimes in 2015, according to a police report. This figure represented an 80% increase over 2014 and worked out to around 570 crimes committed by migrants every day, or 23 crimes each hour, between January and December 2015.
Mass migration is fast-tracking the rise of Islam in Germany, as evidenced by the proliferation of no-go zones, Sharia courts, polygamy, child marriages and honor violence. Mass migration has also been responsible for social chaos, including jihadist attacks, a migrant rape epidemic, a public health crisis, rising crime and a rush by German citizens to purchase weapons for self-defense — and even to abandon Germany altogether.
Rolling out a welcome mat for Muslim immigrants and purported refugees has wrought havoc in Europe.
Is this what we want in America?
President Trump’s executive order has been attacked on other specious grounds. One of them is that it mars America’s image. Yet, other nations sell residencies if migrants have enough money –and these nations include Canada and New Zealand. Six of the seven nations of Trump’s list bar entrance into theircountries based on nationality. A number of Arab nations agree with Trump on the need for such an executive order. Contrary to claims from activists, the executive order is not recruiting more terrorists.
One might ask where is the gratitude from Muslims around the world for what America has done for them: America liberated Kuwait and Iraq from the murderous Saddam Hussein regime, established no fly and protected zones for them in Bosnia and Iraq, toppled the murderous Muammar Gaddafi in Libya, provided untold billions of dollars in aid over the years to Muslims throughout the world and allowed over 1.6 million Muslims to settle in America since 9/11, when we were attacked by Muslims in the name of Islam.
Islamic Center of America, Dearborn, Michigan
What have we received in return? Oil embargos, oil price gouging, terrorism and mass murder.
Emma Lazarus’s poem on the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty is not a law; nor is it a suicide note. The promise to open our doors to the needy has been met over America’s history. The poem was written for another age and another world. Activists might ignore facts and manipulate emotions to achieve their goals, but America should not be fooled and let down its shield. Concerns about safety is not a paranoid delusion but even if it were, sometimes it is true that only the paranoid survive. And as Joseph Heller put it, just because a person is paranoid doesn’t mean that they aren’t after you

Obama Fundamentally Transformed America the Democrats
Former President Obama failed at transforming America, but did succeeded at transforming the Democratic Party. That is why we are witnessing an unprecedented all-out war against the new president. Since President Trump’s inauguration, the headlines are all about leftist groups forcing Democratic Party politicians to adopt their strategy of “Resist!” and claiming President Trump is a threat to the country.
Believe your eyes: women in pink pussy hats led by a jihadi-supporting Muslim in a hijab, and youths in black masks attacking Trump supporters with clubs, are precisely what they look like – ideologues and extremists. So where did all these agitators come from? From the moment he entered the Oval Office, Obama staffed up a leftwing DOJ, EPA and Department of Education, and began to target blacks, conservationists, and millennials with his leftwing, divisive messages. Enormous sums of money were lavished on radical groups and agendas.
As Paul Sperry tells us in an important New York Post article, Obama’s private foundation, Organizing for Action, directly churned out community organizers by the tens of thousands. When former President Barack Obama said he was “heartened” by anti-Trump protests, he was sending a message of approval to his troops. Troops? Yes, Obama has an army of agitators — numbering more than 30,000 — who will fight his Republican successor at every turn of his historic presidency. And Obama will command them from a bunker less than two miles from the White House.
Significantly, Obama handed his famous state of the art election campaign – the data, the staff, the fundraising – to Organizing for Action, not to the Democratic Party. Eight years later, the Democratic Party is decimated at every level of government. And they are being overrun by professional agitators. From the moment he took over the Oval office, Obama’s efforts were much bigger than the OFA’s direct training. According to Hans von Spakowsky and Christian Adams, two attorneys who previously worked in the Civil Rights Division …every single one of the hundreds of lawyers hired during the Obama Administration—every single one—was a leftwing activist. “The Obama Justice Department,” they wrote, “has assembled a law firm of hundreds of fringe leftists to enforce a brave new vision of civil rights law.
Through the DOJ, President Obama instituted a shakedown system eerily reminiscent of the Acorn “Muscle for Money” program that he was a part of in Chicago. But as president, he could do it to the tune of half a billion, yes that’s a billion, dollars.
From Kimberly Strassel: The Justice Department prosecutes cases against supposed corporate bad actors. Those companies agree to settlements that include financial penalties. Then Justice mandates that at least some of that penalty money be paid in the form of “donations” to nonprofits that supposedly aid consumers and bolster neighborhoods….surprise, surprise: … The National Council of La Raza. The National Urban League. The National Community Reinvestment Coalition. NeighborWorks America (which awards grants to left-leaning community organization groups, and has been compared with Acorn).
We are talking about very large sums of money, to very radical groups.
This strategy kicked off with the $13 billion J.P. Morgan settlement … That changed with the Citigroup and Bank of America settlements, which outright required $150 million in donations. The BofA agreement contains a provision that potentially tees up nonprofit groups for another $490 million. …To further induce companies to go the donation route, Justice considers these handouts to be worth “double credit” against penalty obligations. So … a $500,000 donation by BofA to La Raza takes at least $1 million off the company’s bill.
Did you ever wonder what happened to make our millennials so authoritarian, with campus culture suddenly against freedom of religion, thought and speech? How did it happen? President Obama at work. He used the federal purse and Title IX to unleash feminist and black radicals on college campuses across America, insisting our colleges were hotbeds of racism and rape. The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division forced campuses to staff up with full time Title IX enforcers or face prosecution. From AEI:
In her essay “The Dean of Sexual Assault” Ms. Williams documents how she went from being “Dean of Students” for several decades to being forced into the role of “Dean of Sexual Assault” in recent years because of misguided pressure from the Office of Civil Rights and the Obama administration ….
There are 150 full time staff at Berkeley alone, in their Division of Equity and Inclusion, with a budget of $20 million. Departments like this across the country provide jobs for radicals, and train more radicals. Eight years under Obama, of training in white privilege and guilt, and you have a generation of politically correct millennials who police themselves and each other, through hive mind thinking and bullying.
Young people were also the target of a program called White House Champion of Change, which Obama used, for example, to push the cause of campus rape, and promote a jihadi activist in America. Then there was the radicalization of the black community. The DOJ was the prime instrument in Obama’s purposeful stoking of racial fear and hate for political gain. Instead of providing jobs to black communities, Obama lectured the country about America’s historic guilt and the injustice of rich people having more money than poor people. Obama abandoned the Democratic Party’s traditional focus on spoils and affirmative action, to support the Blacks Lives Matter War on Cops. More suffering for blacks, more radicalization.
The Obama-Holder-Lynch Justice Department has been on the front lines of the left’s campaign to vilify law enforcement and to promote radical anti-police organizations such as Black Lives Matter and Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. Over the past eight years, the Department has initiated investigations into 23 local police departments for civil rights violations … Baltimore, Ferguson, Missouri, and Chicago. In such cases, wide-ranging complaints are filed against a department, …allowing the Justice Department to in essence direct the day to day activities of the police force, mandating the Obama leftwing social agenda on local jurisdictions.
Wonder why you can’t even chill out with some sports or celebrity TV these days, without getting a dose of leftist agitprop? All those celebrity fundraisers and parties at the White House had a political arm, with Obama calling on entertainers and sports figures to promote his political agenda.
…used Obama’s prestige to recruit “leaders from politics, business, tech, sports, media, and entertainment to create a digital storm across an array of social media” to back Obama’s amnesty for illegal immigrants. President Trump was elected by America’s salt of the earth heartland and common sense working class. That’s who we’re supposed to think are Hitlerites.
The hysteria against Trump arises from precisely those groups targeted, agitated and trained by none other than our previous President, Obama, Agitator-in-Chief.

Senator McConnell, the Security Council Resolution, and the Default of the Guardians
By Mike Ford
President Obama has learned well from Majority Leader McConnell. A few days ago, U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power, acting under direction of Secretary of State Kerry, who was himself obeying diktat from President Obama, abstained from a Security Council resolution condemning Israel’s legal settlement of the territory known as, “The West Bank.” As any student of history and international conventions knows, annexation and settlement of territories captured as a result of a “defensive war,” are perfectly legal. I won’t go into the how’s and why’s of that in this space. Suffice it to say, there is no international convention preventing Israel from outright annexation of the West Bank, as those lands were captured as a result of Israel winning a war in which she was attacked first.
What is important is what this decision enabled and more importantly, what it precluded. First of all, it gave away U.S. advantage, thus enabling passage of the measure — a measure that codified Israel as being in violation of “international law,” thus placing her Soldiers assigned to security missions in the West Bank, at risk of being put in the dock at The Hague.
Second, this decision is difficult for subsequent U.S. administrations to undo. Now, instead of a simple U.S. veto to prevent this particular hostile U.N. action towards the State of Israel, the U.S. needs all of the permanent members of the Security Council to agree or at least abstain from any corrective action the U.S. may propose.
When, you might ask, have we seen this particular paradigm recently? It seems to me, we saw pretty much this same thing when the U.S. Senate, along with the House, approved the Iran Nuclear “treaty.” As I’m sure we all know, a treaty in which the U.S. is a party must be “consented” to by two thirds of the Senators present. Led by Senator McConnell, the Republican Majority Senate, along with a Republican House, abdicated the Senate’s treaty power and instead, passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. Much like the U.S. Security Council abstention, this bill reversed the Constitutional balance of power when “consenting” to treaties. Instead of requiring 67 votes to ratify or consent to the Iran Nuclear Deal (Treaty), the Senate must now obtain 60 votes to overcome a filibuster to stop that same ‘treaty.”
Note: From Senator Bob Corker’s (R) website,
“The bill passed the Senate 98 to 1 and the House of Representatives 400 to 25.”
Thanks, Senator McConnell — and all the Republicans who voted with you to undermine the Senate’s Treaty oversight power. As Republicans, we have indeed met the enemy, and he is us.
