Information on the Equality Act – WHICH MUST BE STOPPED BY THE SENATE

Mat Staver
Liberty Counsel
March 30, 2019

On Tuesday, the House Judiciary Committee begins its hearings on the so-called Equality Act.

Democrats hope to ram this heinous bill through before the American people realize the deception of the bill’s name and the danger the Act poses to people of faith and faith-based organizations. This bill [essentially takes away] religious freedom and targets churches with an LGBT wrecking ball.

I concur with the assessment of my colleague, Dr. James Dobson, who warned, “I wish I could say I was shocked to see the speed with which Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats have brought to committee the sweet sounding but entirely treacherous Equality Act. This decision demonstrates a frightening willingness by those on the left to advance a radical social agenda at a time when our nation already faces so many other divisive challenges.”

We must continue to remind members of the House Judiciary Committee and ALL of Congress that the Equality Act is the most extreme threat to religious freedom, free speech, privacy and women’s rights that has ever been proposed in the U.S. Congress. Time is of the essence! [We urge you to] send immediate messages to your state’s congressional leaders, as well as House and Senate leaders and key committee members who must hear your voice as they consider the impact of this ill-conceived measure. [Contact Liberty Counsel to request that they send faxes to your representatives—very simple to do, donation requested.]

[House Majority is Democrat, Minority is Republican—the opposite is true of the Senate this term]
For your reference, below are some brief bullet points regarding the “Equality Act”
• Among other things, amends federal employment and public accommodations law by adding “sexual orientation and gender identity” (“actual or perceived”) to the same protection as race [BUT RACE IS A CHARACTERISITC OF BIRTH, THE OTHER A CHOICE! ILLOGICAL. THIS IS THE THOUGHT POLICE REQUIRING US TO BELIEVE & ACT IMMORALLY ☹]
• Prohibits free exercise of religion as a claim or defense
• Applies to churches; private and religious schools; hospitals; employers and contractors; places of gatherings; sports; local, state, and federal entities; and more
• Non-complying churches or nonprofit organizations will lose tax-exempt status
• Non-complying schools will lose accreditation, including colleges, which in turn means colleges will not be able to accept student loans
• Applies to any “stadium or other place of or establishment that provides exhibition, entertainment, recreation, exercise, amusement, gathering, or display,” and “any establishment that provides a good, service, or program, including a store, shopping center, online retailer or service provider, salon, bank, gas station, food bank, service or care center, shelter, travel agency, or funeral parlor, or establishment that provides health care, accounting, or legal services,” and any place or establishment that provides “transportation service”
• An “establishment” includes “an individual whose operations affect commerce and who is a provider of a good, service, or program” and is not “limited to a physical facility or place”
• Venues that provide weddings or where they are celebrated, including churches, will be forced to open their facilities to same-sex weddings or other LGBT events
• Biological men who subjectively assert they “identify as a woman” (and vice versa) will be able to use women’s restrooms, dressing rooms, locker rooms, showers, and bunk with women on overnight stays (including church, mission, or school events of all ages, and domestic abuse shelters), participate in sports as a “woman,” and more)

Privacy to use men’s or women’s facilities (including bunking and sleeping facilities) will be nonexistent
• Immutable biological differences and unique attributes between sexes will become illusory because birth sex is irrelevant under the Equality Act
• Women’s rights and historic gains made by women will be negatively affected because men will be able to legally be recognized and treated as “women”

• Private, religious, and public employers & employees will have to affirm LGBT
• Adoption and foster care agencies, including prospective adoptive or foster care parents, will not be able to make placement decisions based on
LGBT, and such prospective adoptive or foster parents will be ineligible unless they affirm LGBT
• Public school curriculum will indoctrinate LGBT and adopt pro-LGBT policies (including use of pronouns and male-female facilities), and the Equality Act will also transform private and religious schools
• Religious employers, including churches and schools, will not be able to maintain and apply marriage policies as the union of one man and one woman, or human sexuality policies or doctrine about sexual relations outside of a married man and woman, in hiring, promotions, benefits, terminations, or public accommodations
• Home-based businesses and artists who work with flowers, cakes, weddings, photography, films, printing, and more will be required to comply with LGBT
Healthcare providers must comply with LGBT and cannot refuse a service or good based on religious or moral reasons (including hormones and plastic surgery)
• Contractors will be precluded from contracting with and working for local, state, or federal entities unless they affirm LGBT
• Local, state, and federal grants will be precluded from those that do not affirm LGBT
• Counselors and clients of all ages will not be able to receive any counsel for their unwanted same-sex attractions, behavior, or gender confusion
• The Act will increase censorship of people and organizations that do not affirm LGBT (including social media, internet search engines, banking, credit cards, and credit card processing)
• It will be used as a wrecking ball to churches, religious organizations, religious freedom, and free speech
• And much more

What to Do When Your Doctor Asks About Guns

What to Do When Your Doctor Asks About Guns
Feb 20, 2019

Editor’s Note: This article was originally published by Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DRGO) in 2015. You can read the original piece and supporting documents here.

By: Tim Wheeler, MD

Have you had the experience of going to your doctor for a particular problem, let’s say headaches, and been surprised by the doctor asking you about a completely unrelated subject — whether you have a gun in your home?
It’s no accident that doctors’ or health plans’ questions about guns in your home have become routine. In the 1980s and 1990s medical professional organizations declared a culture war on gun ownership in America. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) developed an official policy urging pediatricians to probe their young patients’ parents about guns in their homes.
Claiming only to be concerned about “gun safety”, the latest code term for gun control, the AAP pushed its member doctors to advise families to get rid of their guns. One of the authors of the original AAP anti-gun policy, Dr. Katherine Christoffel, was quoted in an AMA journal as saying “Guns are a virus that must be eradicated.”
The American Medical Association (AMA) and the American College of Physicians (ACP) have also mounted aggressive and highly publicized campaigns against gun ownership and advised their member physicians to pressure their patients to get rid of their guns. Other physician specialty groups have done the same.

Many people are rightly outraged by this unprofessional behavior of some physicians. Several states, most notably Florida, have passed laws to stop doctors and other health care professionals from misusing their patients’ trust to push a political agenda of gun control. Such abuse of authority and trust by a physician is called an ethical boundary violation.

You may encounter the question in your health plan’s standard health appraisal questionnaire. Even though it may not be of your doctor’s making, it’s still part of your permanent medical record. Or your doctor may have a personal prejudice against gun ownership, shaped by her training in medical school or residency. Either way, it is important for people to know some very important facts:
• Doctors receive absolutely no training about firearm safety, mechanics, or tactics in medical school or residency. They are completely unqualified by their training to advise anyone about guns.
• Gun ownership is a civil right. A doctor’s abuse of his position of trust to pressure you to give up that civil right is professionally and morally wrong. In some states it is illegal. You DO NOT have to tolerate it.
• You as a consumer have great power in the doctor-patient relationship. Do not be afraid to use it.
Let’s be clear. We’re not talking about a doctor who casually talks with you about guns out of a common interest you both may have. If you and your doc get to comparing notes about your favorite hunting rifles or latest trip to the gun range, that is a world apart from a calculated effort to prejudice you against gun ownership.
So what can you do when your doctor or your health plan starts asking you about guns in your home?
Your doctor may very likely just be going along with the guidelines of his or her gun-hating medical organization, such as the AAP or ACP. One survey showed that although many doctors agree that guns are a public health problem, only a minority feel it’s right to ask their patients about guns in their homes. Many doctors sense that it’s wrong and don’t allow themselves to be recruited as gun control activists by their medical organizations.
A range of options is available to you, some sending a more powerful message than others. These are updated from DRGO’s original recommendations, since the medical profession has changed so much in the last two decades:
  1. Politely refuse to answer the doctor’s question or the health plan’s questionnaire item about guns. You can either explain your discomfort with the question or decline to give a reason.
  2. If the gun question(s) appears on your health plan’s routine health assessment questionnaire, file a formal written complaint with the health plan. Every health plan has a member complaint process, often prescribed by law. Your complaint will be registered and the health plan will respond.
  3. If the health plan responds with the excuse that their questions about your guns are standard medical practice that they must follow, you can take the complaint to the next step—file a written complaint with your state agency that regulates health plans. For example, in California you would follow the complaint procedure on the Department of Managed Health Care web site. It’s your right as a patient under California law.
  4. If your doctor persists in asking intrusive questions about guns in your home, you can also file a complaint specifically against him or her with your health plan. Such complaints are taken seriously, and the doctor will be called to account for it. Having one or more complaints about ethical boundary violations on her record will make her think twice about doing it again.
  5. Internet consumer rating sites have created another way doctors can be publicly rated on the basis of service, attitude, and behavior. Some commonly used rating sites are Yelp.com, Healthgrades.com, Vitals.com, and RateMDs.
  6. Increasingly, doctors’ pay from Medicare and insurance companies is tied to how they score on patient satisfaction surveys. These are often sent randomly to patients, but you can request one to fill out. You can have a powerful impact on a doctor’s conduct by reporting the doctor’s unethical questioning about your guns.
  7. If the doctor’s conduct is especially offensive, as was the case with this Florida pediatrician, you have the right to submit a complaint to the doctor’s licensing board. This is an agency in your state government that holds the ultimate power of licensure over your doctor. A quick internet search for “medical board” in your state should take you to the official form for filing a complaint. This is a step that should not be taken lightly.
Remember when writing your complaint to be polite. Explain why you find the doctor’s or health plan’s behavior unacceptable. Include the powerful points we’ve discussed:
• Your doctor is professionally unqualified to give expert advice on firearms
• Your right to own firearms is a civil right that is none of your doctor’s business
• A doctor misusing his or her authority and trust to push a political agenda of gun control is an ethical boundary violation. Such unprofessional conduct is not acceptable.
Your right to own a firearm is enshrined in the Constitution. Don’t let any doctor or health plan intimidate you into giving up your civil rights.

President Trump Warns Mexico To Stem Flow Of Illegal Immigration Or Face Tariffs

OAN Newsroom
UPDATED 1:28 PM PT — Thursday, April 4, 2019
President Trump is ramping up pressure on Mexico by warning the U.S. will impose auto tariffs on the country if it does not help stem the flow of the illegal immigration.  While speaking from the White House Thursday, the president gave Mexico a one-year deadline to step up efforts to curb the crisis. He warned if the country does not help by that time then the U.S. will close the border.  The president also expanded his threat to shutdown the border by acknowledging there would likely be economic impacts, but saying security is more important.
“Mexico understands that we’re going to close the border or I’m gonna tariff the cars — I’ll do one or the other and probably start off with the tariffs, that’ll be a very powerful incentive because Mexico has the strongest immigration laws anywhere in the world,” said President Trump. “They don’t have courts like we do, we have a stupid system of courts — it’s the craziest thing in the world.”
The president’s comments come ahead of his trip to Calexico, California Friday, where he will tour the recently replaced portions of a 30-foot tall border fence.

Meanwhile, House Democrats are introducing a resolution condemning President Trump’s plans to close the southern border. Representatives from Texas — Henry Cuellar and Veronica Escobar — have introduced a bill to keep the border open. Democrats have claimed closing the border would hurt tourism and create economic risks for Mexico and the U.S.
This comes as Customs and Border Protection warns the border is being overwhelmed by thousands of illegal aliens crossing from Mexico every day. Border officials have urged Democrats to visit the border to witness the scale of the crisis for themselves.
The Democrat-led resolution also calls for better treatment and conditions for illegal immigrants detained at the border.

Grassley: Democrats Are Using IRS For Political Purposes, ‘Nixonian’ Tactics

Grassley: Democrats Are Using IRS For Political
Purposes, ‘Nixonian’ Tactics

OAN Newsroom
UPDATED 7:10 AM PT — Friday, April 5, 2019
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is blasting House Democrats for trying to use the IRS for political purposes.
During a lengthy speech on Thursday, Grassley said Democrats “dislike President Trump with a passion,” and they want his tax returns to “destroy him.” He called their plan “Nixonian” at its core in reference to former President Richard Nixon misusing the agency.  Grassley went on to say Democrats have not offered any evidence, which would suggest the IRS hasn’t done its job auditing the president’s tax returns.
The Democrat-led House Ways and Means Committee formally requested six-years worth of the president’s filings on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is accusing Democrats of “weaponizing” the IRS by seeking President Trump’s tax returns. During his weekly briefing Thursday, he questioned what lawmakers across the aisle think they can uncover that the Mueller team did not.  McCarrthy criticized Democrats for launching a politically-motivated attack against the president.
House Democrats are asking the IRS to comply with their request for the president’s financial documents by April 10, 2019. President Trump has said he’s unable to comply, because he remains under audit.

Now this is the Law of the Jungle — as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk the Law runneth forward
and back —
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength

― Rudyard Kipling

Day in and day out I observe that The Rule of Law is being eroded in America,
especially the Highest Law of the Land, The Constitution of the United States
and The Bill of Rights. If you disagree with me, then maybe you simply do not
know what it is that you are looking for, so you do not miss it. Here is a list
with four things to help you better see what exactly it is that we are slowly
but surely losing.

1. Read, The Law, by Frédéric Bastiat.
2. Make a list of your natural rights.
3. Read, The Constitution of the United States and The Bill of Rights.
4. Read, Animal Farm, by George Orwell.

Why does this erosion happen? How do men respond when it does? Bastiat
answers these questions in his book, The Law.
…But it is also true that a man may live and satisfy his wants by seizing and
consuming the products of the labor of others. This process is the origin of
Now since man is naturally inclined to avoid pain — and since labor is
pain in itself — it follows that men will resort to plunder whenever plunder
is easier than work. History shows this quite clearly. And under these
conditions, neither religion nor morality can stop it.
When, then, does plunder stop? It stops when it becomes more painful
and more dangerous than labor.

It is evident, then, that the proper purpose of law is to use the power of its
collective force to stop this fatal tendency to plunder instead of to work.
All the measures of the law should protect property and punish plunder.

But, generally, the law is made by one man or one class of men. And since
law cannot operate without the sanction and support of a dominating force,
this force must be entrusted to those who make the laws.

This fact, combined with the fatal tendency that exists in the heart of man to
satisfy his wants with the least possible effort, explains the almost universal
perversion of the law. Thus it is easy to understand how law, instead of
checking injustice, becomes the invincible weapon of injustice.

It is easy to understand why the law is used by the legislator to destroy in
degrees among the rest of the people, their personal independence
by slavery, their
liberty by oppression, and their property by plunder. This
is done for the benefit of the person who makes the law, and in proportion
to the power that he holds.

Men naturally rebel against the injustice of which they are victims. Thus,
when plunder is organized by law for the profit of those who make the law,
all the plundered classes try somehow to enter — by peaceful or
revolutionary means— into the making of laws. According to their degree
of enlightenment, these plundered classes may propose one of two entirely
different purposes when they attempt to attain political power: Either they
may wish to stop lawful plunder, or they may wish to share in it.
Woe to the nation when this latter purpose prevails among the mass victims
of lawful plunder when they, in turn, seize the power to make laws!
The Law Frédéric Bastiat
