Really? This is what our Tax Money is being wasted on; and we can’t afford to build a wall on the border?

Taxpayer-Funded Duck Penis Researcher Now Studying Whale Penises

BY:
A leading researcher on a ridiculed taxpayer-funded study of duck penises is now using her expertise on orca whales and is going to the “March for Science” to protest budget cuts.  Patricia Brennan, a visiting lecturer at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, worked on the duck penis study that received $384,949 from the National Science Foundation, a grant that was funded through the 2009 stimulus package. The study looked at the differences in the corkscrew-shaped penises of ducks.
A recent interview with New England Public Radio revealed that Brennan is still fascinated by genitalia of various marine animals, this time one from an orca whale that was just delivered from Sea World to her lab.  “Holy cow,” Brennan said when the penis first arrived. “Oh wow. Oh my goodness. It’s enormous!”  “Although Brennan has spent 20 years studying the sex organs of marine animals, she’s never seen anything this big,” New England Public Radio reported. “It takes up an entire lab sink.”

Why Americans can’t afford to ignore the border adjustment tax

TheHill.com

BY MARY KATE HOPKINS AND ALAN NGUYEN, OPINION CONTRIBUTORS –

Why Americans can’t afford to ignore the border adjustment taxWith Congress returning from Easter recess next week, the debate over the border adjustment tax (B.A.T.) rages on. The most recent claim by supporters is that it’s unfair to focus on the 20 percent tax hike on all imports—including finished products, intermediate parts, or raw materials—without also accounting for the benefits of other proposals included in the House Republican tax reform plan.
In other words, pay no attention to the new, trillion-dollar tax behind the curtain.
In reality, Americans simply can’t afford to ignore the impact this devastating proposed tax would have on their businesses and family budgets.
For starters, the border adjustment tax is laser-focused on importing businesses. This means that, even though there are other tax cuts in the plan, importers would face higher—and in many cases substantially higher—tax bills. These targeted companies would bear the large burden of paying for the rest of tax reform and at a price they can’t afford.Take a state like Texas. A recent analysis from our organizations found Texas importers could owe $30 billion in new taxes, even taking a partial currency adjustment into account—an outcome that supporters suggest will happen but that many economists have rejected.  That’s nearly the entire amount that all Texas businesses paid in all federal business taxes in 2014. The average Texas importer could owe an additional $1.3 million in import taxes alone.

Trump steps up calls for Mexican wall as shutdown looms

TheHill.com
BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY
Trump steps up calls for Mexican wall as shutdown loomsPresident Trump on Monday said building a wall on the Mexican border will stop drugs from coming into the United States.  Trump offered the argument on Twitter the same day lawmakers return to Washington with a week to fund the government. The White House would like to see money for the wall in the funding bill.  “The Wall is a very important tool in stopping drugs from pouring into our country and poisoning our youth (and many others)!” the president tweeted.

The president and top administration officials on Sunday talked up the importance of the border wall. The government will shut down at midnight on April 28 if Congress cannot agree on a spending bill.    Democrats and some Republicans have voiced strong opposition to using the spending bill as a vehicle to begin funding the border wall. Democrats have noted repeatedly that when Trump promised to build the wall, he also promised that Mexico would pay for it.

Freedom Caucus poised for pivotal role in infrastructure fight

President Trump is escalating his feud with the conservative House Freedom Caucus, with his $1 trillion infrastructure package hanging in the balance.
The conservative caucus is sure to play a role in the legislative fight over rebuilding the nation’s roads, bridges and highways, something Trump promised to deliver during his campaign.
Massive federal spending on transportation has long given fiscal conservatives heartburn.
And Freedom Caucus lawmakers who support Trump’s infrastructure push may have to work extra hard now to convince fellow members to support the president’s proposal, especially after Trump stepped up his attacks on some lawmakers in the group this week.
But transportation leaders warn it would be a mistake to count out the support of the Freedom Caucus on infrastructure, assuming the measure is fully paid for with a palatable offset.  Numerous members sit on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and some are even lead sponsors on infrastructure investment bills — including one related to tax reform that appears to be gaining steam.THE HILL – CLICK HERE TO READ ON>>>>>
